About us
The Unstoppable Spirit of the Steel 4 Structures Deeside Dragons
In 1974, on the ice of North Wales, a dream was born. A handful of determined players laced up their skates, fuelled not by fame or fortune, but by a pure love of the game.
From those early days, the Deeside Dragons have grown into one of the most enduring symbols of community, pride and passion in Welsh sport.
A Legacy Forged in Ice
For more than five decades, the Dragons have faced challenges that would have ended most teams but not this club.
We have battled through rink closures, financial pressures, and even a global pandemic that saw our home transformed into a vaccination centre for over two and a half years.
Yet when the doors of Deeside Ice Arena reopened, we did not just return. We came back stronger.
Crowds have surged beyond pre-pandemic levels. Families, lifelong supporters and first-time fans now pack The Den week in, week out, creating an atmosphere that continues to grow with every game.
Because this club has never just been about results on the ice.
It is about identity. It is about belonging. It is about community.
More Than Just Hockey
The Steel 4 Structures Deeside Dragons are a not-for-profit organisation, run entirely by volunteers.
Every ticket scanned, every game delivered and every moment created is powered by people who give their time, energy and passion for something bigger than themselves.
But what we are building goes far beyond match nights.
We are committed to making a genuine difference across our communities, using ice hockey as a platform to inspire, support and bring people together.
A Club With Purpose
As the club continues to grow, so does our responsibility. That is why we have formally adopted an ambitious Civic Mission that places community, inclusion and player development at the centre of everything we do.
This is a natural next step in the journey we have already been on. A community-first, family-driven club that now has a clear, structured vision for the future.
At its core, our mission is simple.
To create opportunities.
To remove barriers.
To build pathways.
From grassroots junior hockey through to senior level, we are committed to developing a sustainable and accessible route for players of all ages and abilities to take part, progress and succeed.
We are investing in coaching, mentoring and long-term development, while also supporting wider opportunities in officiating, leadership and education within the sport.
At the same time, we are working closely with schools, local authorities, charities and partners across North Wales to strengthen our role as a true community anchor.
This is about more than producing players.
It is about building confidence, resilience and wellbeing.
It is about creating a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone.
It is about giving people a place to belong.
And it is about ensuring that ice hockey in North Wales has a strong, sustainable future for generations to come.
Our Next Chapter
The past has shaped us, but the future is where our fire burns brightest.
Every game, every season and every new face through the doors is another step forward in a journey that is over 50 years in the making.
We are proud of where we have come from.
We are excited about where we are going.
And none of it is possible without the people who stand with us.
Our supporters.
Our volunteers.
Our players.
Our partners and sponsors.
Together, we continue to build something special.
A club that represents its community.
A club that stands for something bigger.
A club that is here for the hockey.
Together
Together, we are stronger.
Together, we are the Steel 4 Structures Deeside Dragons.
