SIGNED: Dragons Bolster Blue Line With Lewis Baldwin Adition
The Steel 4 Structures Deeside Dragons are thrilled to announce the signing of experienced defenceman Lewis Baldwin from the BTC Billingham Stars ahead of the new season.
A product of the Bradford Bulldogs junior system, Lewis has gone on to establish himself as one of the most reliable defencemen in British hockey, spending the majority of his career competing in the EPIHL / NIHL National League. Most notably, he made over 250 league appearances for the Leeds Knights, gaining a wealth of experience at a higher level.
At just 27 years of age, Lewis brings the perfect blend of experience, composure, and quality to the Dragons’ blue line. A true two-way defenceman, he is just as comfortable shutting down opposition attacks as he is joining the rush, dictating the tempo of games, and moving the puck quickly and efficiently out of the defensive zone.
The Dragons’ defence took significant strides forward last season, becoming one of the team’s biggest strengths. The addition of a player of Lewis’ calibre is another major statement of intent as the club looks to build on that progress and take another step forward this year.
Head Coach Mike Clancy said:
“Lewis is a player we’ve admired for a long time. He’s played a lot of hockey at a higher level and brings real quality to our defence. He’s calm on the puck, makes smart decisions, moves it quickly, and can contribute offensively while remaining solid in his own zone. We felt our defence improved massively last season, and adding someone with Lewis’ experience and ability gives us another huge boost. We’re delighted to welcome him to Deeside and can’t wait to see him in a Dragons jersey.”
Speaking after signing, GM Shaun Bebbington said:
“Last season, Lewis was a player that I admired, he was a standout performer for the Stars and someone Mike had identified as a potential addition. We were delighted for him to commit and it helped knowing most of the boys in the room. A quality player who I cannot wait to see in a Dragons Jersey.”
